Douglasville, GA – The 2025 College and Career Fair held at Deer Lick Park on April 30th created a meaningful opportunity for connections that empowered veterans, high school students, college students, and professionals to take charge of their futures. Featuring over 25 colleges, businesses, and organizations, and welcoming approximately 50 enthusiastic participants.

From the moment the doors opened, a buzz of excitement filled the air as everyone engaged in meaningful conversations with representatives from a diverse array of institutions. Attendees had the opportunity to explore various educational institutions, including local community colleges, prestigious universities, and vocational schools, all sharing information about programs, scholarships, and campus life. Veterans, active service members, and their families connected with schools like Georgia Highlands College and Emory University, as well as employers such as Rockdale Police and the USPS, who understand the unique skills of military service.
Resources for veterans and community members including Worksource Georgia, CD.Edresources, and the Get to Work Foundation, were also available to provide assistance and share more information about the services they provide for college and career assistance. This unique combination of resources, educational, and employment options created a holistic experience, catering to various interests and aspirations. Overall, this comprehensive gathering aimed to foster connections that could open doors to successful educational and career journeys.
Attendees expressed their gratitude for the fair, sharing the impact it had on their lives and futures. "This event was incredibly helpful," said David Miller, a veteran and recent graduate.
"I wasn't sure what my next steps should be after leaving the service. Being able to speak directly to colleges and employers helped clarify my options. I got some great leads for not only further education but also potential job placements."
The success of the College and Career Fair can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of Georgia WorkSource for Veterans, L.E.A.R.N. Staff event coordinator, Christine Smith, and community partners who worked tirelessly to ensure a productive and engaging event. The event not only boosted community spirit but also inspired future leaders. It provided veterans and professionals seeking a new career pathway with educational and career resources, while offering high school and college students valuable insights to guide their paths. Looking forward, we can't wait to harness this momentum for even greater events ahead like our Back to School Giving event in July!
