Program Details

Male enrollment numbers may be lower now, but it's not a new issue. Women have outpaced men in higher education for many years. We at L.E.A.R.N. Foundation, Inc. celebrate the achievements of women in college; however, we also recognize the value of greater enrollment and completion rates for men. Your institution needs this increase; frankly, the country's workforce and leadership need it, also.

Every student has a different story.  The causes of these lower college enrollment numbers and success rates for men are many, but here are a few contributing factors.  More than half of the undergraduate students across the country are first-generation.  That is, no members of their immediate families have graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree.  First-generation students don’t have the experienced mentors they need to navigate the complex paths for getting into and staying in college.  Many of these first-generation students are from lower income families.  Add low income into the formula, and you have students needing guidance for financial aid and loans (hopefully avoiding loans), and also learning how to juggle full-time jobs and college classes.  Some first-generation students are non-traditional, and have been out of school for several years, and may have families of their own.   Many first-generation students are Black or Latino, which can mean an additional layer of college-success barriers.   College men who fall into any of these categories are likely to need experienced help, and are unlikely to seek it themselves.

The L.E.A.R.N. Foundation's First-Generation Male Success Program is the right solution for your school.

Skilled Staff

Our team has 100-plus combined years of working with students in higher education, the bulk of which has been focused on male student success. From recruiting and retention, to statistical evaluation, to reporting out to the communities you serve, our experience covers every aspect of your institutional needs.  We have built and sustained award-winning programs for Black and Latino male students, have worked extensively with first-generation students, and we have helped thousands of low-income students maneuver the system.

Data Analyst Strategy

L.E.A.R.N. Foundation Inc. is in the business of narrative change regarding first-generation male student success at your institution. That narrative change begins and ends with data. Everything we recommend and every action we take will be anchored in what the numbers tell us.

Personal Blueprints

We recognize that one size does not fit all. Our program is ideal for guiding first-generation male students, for students of color, for low-income students; however, our strategies work with all students who have barriers to success.  L.E.A.R.N. Foundation Inc. can provide options for your institution, and for your particular needs - from offering an assessment and recommendations, to having our boots on the ground for you over an extended period. We have been in this business a long time, and we know what works.
